True Romance

It was a magical moment and a snow drift that brought David and Susan together. A music student in Rochester, New York, Susan had borrowed a car for the weekend, only to find herself caught in a blizzard. The VW stuck firmly in the snow and there Susan would have remained had not David stepped to the rescue; he not only lifted the car out of the snow but promptly asked Susan out to lunch. Two weeks later, he asked her to marry him; they have been together for 43 years.

For Susan, an Aries, it was love at first sight; she admired the fact that David was an Israeli who had fought to establish the state of Israel, finding him quite romantic. For David, a Gemini, “first sight” was not the snow drift but seeing Susan on stage, playing the flute for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. She was 18 and already a talented musician.

In response to the question, “How have you stayed together so long?” both David and Susan credits their shared interests. Though different in personality, they both enjoy travel, dance, museums, music, gardening, cooking, fitness and history.

Susan, however, insists that David is the “glue” that holds their marriage together; an example of his extraordinary consideration is the fact that he took up all kinds of dance lessons when he was 50 to please Susan, though he had never danced in his life. Ask them how Tango entered their lives and they point to a trip to Argentina when, as Susan puts it,
                         “We caught fire!
