Anyes... Dance Instructor

More than 30 years ago, when Anyes left France to come to the States, she little thought that dance would play a large role in her future. Captivated by the international ballroom championships she saw on TV, she determined to take dance lessons. Briefly, she studied with Jay Jarquin (Dancer's Delight Studio), Luis Gallo and Vito Bertucci; seeing her potential, both instructors told her she was competition material.

At their advice, she competed in 35 Professional-Amateur events, winning first place in each one. From then on, her future in dance was set. Anyes teaches salsa, merengue and cha cha "guahija." She gives group lessons at Chicago clubs such as the 720 Club and at studios such as the Northshore Dance Studio on Broadway; she also gives private lessons and provides instruction at parties and special events.

Her philosophy is to instill passion for dance in her students, so that they become addicted; she wants everyone to learn the dance and have fun. To this end, Anyes breaks down each dance into the man's part and the woman's part, thus simplifying the learning experience .From men, she expects mastery, magic and machismo; she expects women to be fluid, flexible, sensuous and feminine -- almost coquettish. She emphasizes leading/following and musicality first, then technique and creativity.
